While creating exceptional projects, the author is always required to proceed from the brainstorming phase to the designing phase swiftly and seamlessly. In order for the latter to be properly optimized, the engineer has to be able to both issue and understand technical documentation, especially - technical drawings presenting the object to be executed in a detailed manner.
During his or her work, every single engineer struggles to make the machine or equipments design as innovative and unique as possible. The originality of the construction as a whole has a remarkable impact on either improving or decreasing its quality.
In order for the machine and equipments design process to be effective, there is the necessity to follow the basic vocation-related rules. According to them, each construction should comply with the requirements specified below:
- Functionality - the designed machine should serve its initial purpose in a proper fashion
- Reliability and durability - each machine should be as dependable as possible
- Performance - the performance of the device should reach a certain level
- Lightness - each of the designed devices should have an acceptable weight
- Price and material availability
- Ergonomics
Machine and equipments designing is performed in compliance with the set structure of the process. The basic scheme of operation is as follows:
1
First step is preeminently based on the identification of the problem and execution of the following auxiliary activities: specification of the purpose, identification of limitations, and preparation of the initial operation scheme. The next step involves the formulation of basic designing-related assumptions - both quantitative data and external conditions. The establishment of solution assessment criteria cannot be underestimated as well.2
Second step is mainly oriented towards the creation of the outline of the basic concept. During the discussed phase, the work of the designer is most abstractive and creative in character. It is as such due to the fact that there is the necessity to create the so-called abstractive big ideas. The phase in question also incorporates the choice of the best concept to be ultimately realized.3
Third step, being the conception crystallization process, leads to the identification of the consecutive elements of the machine to be projected that will reflect the prior created big idea most comprehensively. Then, the functional and structural projects are created.4
Fourth step incorporates the exceptionally important issue, being the specification of the initial conditions for building separate machines that is - classification of the acceptable loads, creation of the identified forces effects scheme, as well as specification of the material and size choice criteria. In the modern world, computer applications come in handy. Thanks to taking advantage of them, the process of machine and equipments design creation is much quicker and there is also the possibility to update and amend the created sketches.5
The last step is the object creation is also referred to as detailed designing. During the analysis and synthesis, the construction details are specified basing on the calculations made beforehand and chosen materials. As it can be noted after the presentation of the consecutive designing-oriented processes, the procedure as a whole is notably demanding, as it requires the functions and capabilities of the machine or equipment to be unequivocally provided. Regardless of the fact if one designs machines or equipments design, they must be ergonomic and ensure the safety of operation. Therefore, it is recommended for the designs to be executed by the reliable engineers equipped with the necessary knowledge, experience, as well as technologically advanced software facilitating the creation of new mechanical objects.
